ImPACT™ Testing

(Immediate Post-Concussion Assessment and Cognitive Testing)

ImPACT™ (Immediate Post-Concussion Assessment and Cognitive Testing) is a 20–minute neurocognitive computerized test that helps physicians manage return to play decision–making after an athlete has sustained a concussion. The test measures multiple cognitive areas that may be significantly affected by traumatic brain injury including memory, visual spatial abilities, and information processing. An initial or "baseline" test is taken before a concussion occurs and is taken a second time 24–72 hours after the head injury. ImPACT™ test scores are used to manage return to play decisions, thus reducing the risk of additional concussions before complete recovery.
